Frozen Shoulder (Adhesive Capsulitis)
After being diagnosed with frozen shoulder (adhesive capsulitis) from a work injury, I sought out a physical therapist who specializes in MFR ( MyoFascial Release) to get me well again. I knew the nature of my ailment was not so much a joint problem that caused pain in back, arm and neck muscles, but rather the other way around. The muscles in my whole upper quadrant had been progressively tightening for months, due to repetitive motion. I eventually could not raise my arm above shoulder height, and was in constant pain. I would sleep only about 2-3 hours out of sheer exhaustion, and even then it was fitful, as any movement caused pain.
โIzabela’s approach may seem odd at first. What you will receive is hands on (quite literally) treatment for the full session. Not just a few minutes of the therapistโs time, and a point in the direction of exercise machines as some of my friends claimed they got at a major therapy chain. It was that one on one time that I truly appreciated. . After 2 months of treatment I was sleeping normally and after 3 months I was back to work.
I also learned that if your injury is from work, and insurance approved a workmanโs comp claim, you have the right to choose your treating doctors and therapists. Insurance companies often have partner deals with big chain establishments, but the final decision is yours, even if it takes a little work to convince them of that fact. I wholeheartedly recommend MFR. Many in the medical community are starting to recognize its effectiveness. Find a good therapist who specializes in it, such as Izabela, and see if doesn’t help you as much as it helped me.
